Owngevity

English platform for product lifespan, maintenance, repairability, ownership cost and better repair-or-replace decisions.

LifespanMaintenanceRepair
Owngevity – website

Owngevity explores a simple but surprisingly difficult question: how long should a product reasonably last, and when is repair still the better decision? The platform combines lifespan, maintenance, condition, repairability and cost into a practical decision framework.

The idea: product lifespan should not be treated as one rigid number, but as an outcome shaped by use, maintenance, common failure modes and economic context.

Realistic lifespan ranges

Appliances, electronics and many other products rarely have one universal lifespan. Owngevity therefore works with realistic ranges and explains which factors can shorten or extend actual service life.

Maintenance as part of lifespan

Products do not fail only because of age. Cleaning, wear parts, usage patterns and preventive maintenance can all matter. Maintenance is therefore treated as a core part of the platform rather than a side topic.

Repair or replace?

A repair can be technically possible but economically poor — or the reverse. Owngevity aims to consider repair cost, remaining lifespan, replacement cost, energy use and repairability together.

Tools and calculators

  • Lifespan Estimator: adds context to typical product-life ranges.
  • Maintenance Planner: makes recurring maintenance easier to schedule.
  • Ownership Cost Calculator: looks at cost over the full ownership period.
  • future repair-or-replace tools can build on the same structured data.

Why Owngevity has its own place

The project sits between consumer advice, repair and sustainability without reducing itself to any one of them. The practical goal is clear: use products longer when that makes sense, maintain them at the right time and make replacement decisions with better context.
